I just want to say I'm so glad you are here, writing and sharing your stories. I've been reading for awhile, never commented, but felt inspired tonight to simply say, thanks.

Oh, please tell me you actually told the mom that! I've been a teacher for several years and have had so many parents I've just wanted to shake until their teeth rattle.

I most definitely did! West Africa is no-holds-barred. I've also shared some other gems with my patients recently, my favourite (straight from the doctor's mouth, I might add) was when my elderly hernia patient asked about what we call "mama-papa" business around here.

"Tell him it's okay, but that he should not try to be a hero."

Which, when it was relayed through the translator, prompted a snort from the little old man.

Were you thinking of Phoebe (from Friends) singing "Smelly Cats" in the coffee shop when you titled this post? Or were you accidentally very clever?

YESSSSS! I'm not the only nerd who can't help humming it to myself when I read that! I'm glad someone picked up on it. =)
