Hi Ali,

Back in August of 2008 you met my wife and little boy Matthew when they came to Mercy ship. I was looking at some old e-mails and saw the one you sent me that included the first pictures I ever saw of Matthew. In the e-mail you mentioned your blog so I went looking for it tonight and found it. I was pleasantly surprised to see you'd written about Cathi and Matthew. I enjoyed reading what you wrote.

Matthew will be a year old on August 16th. He's had his lip repaired but still is awaiting the pallete getting fixed. It turns out he was profoundly deaf too. He gets Cochlear implants after his first birthday

He's a wonderful little boy and a real blessing to Cathi and I.

I see in some of your writing that you sometimes get overwhelmed by all the suffering you see. I'm impressed that you have been able to stick with it.

If it helps, know that one little boy is thriving and that you helped at a time when Cathi and Matthew really needed it.

If you want, you can see Matthew's new smile on his caringbridge site.

Thanks again for what you did for Cathi and Matthew back in August.

Love you, friend.
Ps 71:23
"My lips will shout for joy when I sing praise to you- I, whom you have redeemed.
(will you tell me to go read this the next time I have one of these days?)

Ali,

I stumbled upon your blog today and it's like a drink of cold water on a hot Alabama (or Africa!) summer afternoon. This post literally brought me to unexpected tears. It's like you defined in me what I couldn't verbally speak myself, but the apparently common fear of not being "enough" seems to plague us all. Stupid Satan. Thank you for being so open and vulnerable; it's an inspiration. Be blessed, my friend.

Seeing the words that you need to know, I realize I need to know them as well. You are not alone, I often share the same sentiment about myself. So I'll add "thank you", for your sharing brings me much peace and a gentle reminder.
