We do that in NI sometimes, the minor surgery on the ward, or unit, actually in our case (although I wouldn't necessarily call placing penrose drains in a baby's abdomen when its gut is dead/dying a "minor" surgery... but I guess more minor than actually removing said gut...)
Jonah had been in my prayers so I am glad to hear this update. Praise the Lord for this touch in Jonah's body. I pray for his parents' strength through this as well.
