Ali... I don't know what to say, but I do not that your heart break was heard in heaven, and that the Father wants you to know He is there... I know this because this morning, as I was pressing the button to take the elevator to my office, I randomly thought of you, and the prayer that came to my lips was one to give you strength on the days when you can't heal physically, to give you peace when it all seems so unfair.... Here in Austin, TX God called me before His thrown to lift you up for encouragement....

Thank you for your ministry, and your grace, and I am so so sorry that you had to turn that young mommy away....

Sigh. This scares me a little. I completely respect the decision of the doctors, it's their job, obviously. But at the same time.... I don't necessarily agree that her pregnancy should have made her lose this opportunity to completely change and improve her life. But that's just the very liberal/feminist side of me speaking, and that doesn't necessarily work everywhere. But anyway, what really scares me is this. Is there a chance she'll do something dangerous to end the pregnancy if she thinks that it will get her the chance to get the surgery?

I've had that fear with a few women before. One I think actually tried - she came back to the ship about a month later saying she needed to be tested again because she wasn't pregnant anymore. This little girl was just concerned with how she would tell her parents, not how she was going to get an abortion.

And the look on someone's face when you tell them they're "not crippled enough" to get past the Hippocratic Oath? That's one that'll haunt me for a while. "First do no harm" feels so fuzzy today.

I am sure this was a very hard decision for the doctors. The life of that baby is just as precious as the life of the mama.

I find it comforting to remember that God knew exactly what the doctors would choose to do. He knew exactly what was going to happen to this little girl. In fact, he knit her together in her own mother's womb and has a plan for her life. His plans are always carried out, no matter how hopeless the situation may seem. (Job 42:2)

He loves her, and will care for her. None of this was a surprise to him.

God bless you all with his peace as you trust in him.

Yes! Stay strong, little one. Maybe she'll be able to have her legs fixed after she has the baby... maybe Africa Mercy will be back. Both lives are precious, God is so good.
