I am so, so glad that you and Phil get to go on this adventure together.
And I am so, so glad that you found some babies to love on. I don't know you (but I feel like I do), but I think that's probably what you do best :-) It's a good thing to be good at.

a day of snuggling babies...ah, I wish I was there! what a precious moment for you, among the thriving masses to single individual lives out which, for the day, were happier for having been touched by your lives.

*can we give to this ministry?

That's exactly what Mariah said; that the need is so overwhelming and she gets through it by focusing on the few that she can help, one at a time.

The website for the centre in Luoyang is here: http://www.showhope.org/OrphanCare/MariasBigHouseofHope.aspx

Here's their donation page: http://www.showhope.org/Donate.aspx

I can't wait to share photos of these precious little ones with you!

I think it's unfair to say that the babies were tossed aside. In a country where access to good healthcare is hard and unaffordable, leaving her baby to be found by a hospital or policeman in hopes of getting the child the necessary medical care is the only hope a mother has that her child can access the medical services s/he needs. How can we compare the pain of giving your child up with the pain of watching your child suffer and die? We in the Western world will never have to make that choice.

Many children in Chinese orphanages were "found" in hospitals and police stations- clearly the mother placed her baby in the most visible place so that they would be discovered almost immediately and taken in and cared for.

Molly, you make a really good point there.

I think, after hearing stories all day long about the little ones who almost didn't make it because they were on the cold steps of a police station all night, I just see things in terms of "tossing away." It's harder for me to see it the way you put it; that this could also be a last, desperate effort on a mama's part to get her little one care.

This is, yet again, why I'm so grateful that there are people out there who take time to leave me comments. It's so good to have this sounding board, of sorts, to guide my thoughts in different directions than the ones they'd normally follow.
