I have 5 kids and I'm not even going to pretend to have the picky eater thing figured out... but I do have 1 thing that you could try that worked with 1 of mine. A straw. I got one of mine to eat the puree's by sticking a straw in the jar. Suddenly it was a smoothie instead of gerber puree. :-) It worked a time or two with one of my other kids, but then I was busted transferring gerber puree to a cup... never again. She didn't like the gerber jars. stinker. :-)
That's all I've got. I'm trying to figure out how to get my 9 month old to eat. The only time she slows down enough to eat is when she's sleeping.
Blessings to you as you venture into toddlerhood. This is such a fun age!

I tried this yesterday, and she actually took a couple sips! Yahoo! Unfortunately, she then got totally distracted by the straw itself and spent the rest of the time trying to chew it to pieces with her new little teeth. Oh well; there's hope there anyway! Thanks so much for the tip. :-)

have you considered consulting with a speech pathologist or occupational therapist about the gagging and other feeding issues? I am only too familiar with your description of Zoe's eating habits!

Unfortunately we don't have access to those services over here, but I have a niece with similar issues and have worked with lots of kids who also share them, so I've got lots of little methods up my sleeves to try. Nothing's really worked yet, but I'm staying hopeful. She actually ate an ounce of avocado with some cereal at lunch today, the most she's eaten at one sitting for almost a month so I'm hopeful. :-)

I had a gagger. Lasted till he was 2/12. (sorry :-( ). He threw up one meal a day. Just had sensitive gag reflexes.... Still does, but he's now 7, eats pretty well so long as the bites are small. Downside is he was underweight for years, but he's healthy, and spunky so they do out grow/mature past their food issues.
I think it's genetic..... I was a picky eater, and my other three kids were picky too. But my dear 7 year old took the cake!
